Evelia is one of our outstanding mother ambassadors who is always willing to help and participate as a volunteer at our activities and events.

Evelia is thrilled to be working at Gecko’s Grill and Pub.

During her attendance at one of our workshops, she heard about Gecko’s Grill and Pub for the first time. She remembers learning about how the company was formed and how it grew, so when her two cousins were looking for a place to work in the restaurant field, she suggested applying there. Evelia took her cousins to fill out an application and realized she could also apply for a part-time job too.

Providing WORK-LIFE Balance

Evelia was thrilled to realize that Gecko’s is flexible with applicants and tries their best to work around their schedule. As a mother of five young children, she wants to spend quality time with them and enjoys being with them after school, which she tries to do as much as possible, including on weekends. Gecko’s management was very receptive to Evelia’s needs and worked around her schedule to ensure she could be with her family. She couldn't be happier.

Now at work, Evelia is learning how to make different sauces and dressings and how to cut vegetables the correct way for different recipes. She was also trained on how to stock produce and other foods, and she is very happy to have been trained by Francisco, an employee who has been with the Gecko’s family for 21 years.

Evelia enjoys the teamwork at Gecko’s, and she is excited about the growth opportunities. What’s more, working in the kitchen is helping her increase her English vocabulary and skills: she has already learned several new kitchen terms.
